Understanding how to convert your desired dose into the correct number of units on an insulin syringe is essential.


Understanding Your Equipment

U-100 insulin syringes are the standard for peptide injections. On these syringes:

  • 100 units = 1 mL

  • 50 units = 0.5 mL

  • 10 units = 0.1 mL

  • 1 unit = 0.01 mL

These syringes come in various sizes, including 1.0 mL, 0.5 mL, and 0.3 mL versions. The unit markings remain consistent across all—100 units always equals 1 mL.


The Three-Step Calculation Method

Step 1: Determine Your Vial's Total Peptide Content (in mcg)

First, convert your vial's total peptide amount from milligrams to micrograms. The conversion is simple:

1 mg = 1000 mcg

Step 3: Calculate Units to Draw for Your Desired Dose

Now, determine how many units to draw for your target dose:

Units to Draw = (Desired Dose in mcg ÷ Concentration in mcg/mL) × 100

Example: You want a 250 mcg dose from the solution above (concentration = 2500 mcg/mL):

On a U-100 insulin syringe, you would draw to the 10-unit mark.


Practical Example: BPC-157

BPC-157 is a popular peptide that typically comes in 5 mg vials. A common dosage is 250–500 mcg per injection.

Using the examples above:

  • 5 mg vial + 2 mL bacteriostatic water = 2500 mcg/mL concentration

  • For a 250 mcg dose: draw 10 units

  • For a 500 mcg dose: draw 20 units


Reconstitution Best Practices

When reconstituting your peptide, follow these guidelines:
